Upgrade Screen on Envy M6-1205dx

Hello, I currenltly have the HP Envy m6 1205dx model and wanted to know what types of screens this laptop can support.

I would like to upgrade to a Full HD resolution screen (1920x1080) & I'm not sure where to find parts.

Please advise, thank you.

Re: Upgrade Screen on Envy M6-1205dx

For example:

This is the exact replacement for the laptop (40 Pin Connector on the bottom right):

http://www.amazon.com/HP-ENVY-M6-1205DX-Laptop-Screen/dp/B00BQ0QUU2

Now this screen has the same specs and it's the resolution I'm looking for:

http://www.amazon.com/WUXGA-Glossy-Screen-HP-682090-001/dp/B00A3MWU76/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UT...

Would this screen work?

@Chrystyna79 Can you please look into this community member's question about an Envy M6-1205dx for a potential support solution?

Thanks,

Re: Upgrade Screen on Envy M6-1205dx

Hello mondevx,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

I understand you are looking to upgrade your display on your HP Envy M6-1205dx Notebook. According to page 29 of your  HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide the 15.6-in, LED, SVA, HD, BrightView display panel 686921-001 is the option you have for your display.  If you look to page 90 you will see the instructions for replacing the display. Lastly on page 102 you will see the 15.6-inch WGA display specifications.

There are no other displays that have been designated as compatible with your system in HP's documentation. I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Re: Upgrade Screen on Envy M6-1205dx

I understand that there's no plug & play screen that will work with my exact model.

I have contacted the supplier of the screen and they informed me that I would need to upgrade the screen cable in order to utilize the full HD screen.

Can you please check on this and what cable I would need?

Thanks.

Re: Upgrade Screen on Envy M6-1205dx

Hello again mondevx,

Unfortnately, there is no other cable listed for this computer. If the manufacturer has the HD screen for this Notebook you may have to go to them for the cable as well. As it stands there is only one cable listed for this computer and that is part number 686898-001.

I hope I have helped. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Re: Upgrade Screen on Envy M6-1205dx

I did this with my dv6 6135dx - a8 with dedicated graphics (crossfire support) = I'm sure the info I provide below will not help you specifically - but in my case as well - HP's politically correct answer was 'We didnt design it that way and we dont support it that way' - so I ended up with a DELL lcd in my hp laptop - using an HP cable for a different hp laptop - and using a dremmel to make extra room for the slightly larger cable = perfect 1080p with a high gamut matte screenn (bright enough to see easily in full daylight with the sun shining in your eyes)

(I wish there was a spoiler button here so I could hide this info for anyone who doesnt need it)

-These are my notes from when I did the upgrade on mine - in case I needed to do it again - perhaps the lnks provided will help you track down the info you need.   If you manage to find an upgrade solution please post it - I have considered buying this laptop - but will only buy it if I can go 1080p ...

How to upgrade dv6t 61XX screen to 1080p:

Here we go. Do all the procedures defined in this document at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for any damage you do to your system from them.

There, now that's over, we can get on the the process.

1) Order the 1080p display cable from HP partsurfer. The part number is 656805-001. Then order a compatible screen like the AUO B156HW0x lines, or the LG LP156WF1.

2) Follow the dv6t service manual for more detailed directictions as far as exact screw placement and such.

Edit, I have found as above the AUO B156HW01 V4 is the best anti-glare to get. So I guess a standard issue HP FHD panel would be inferior. I am going for a AUO B156HW01 V4 even though a V7 is meant to be better but that is glossy and I am not into those.

Just if anyone is wondering, the AUO B156HW01 V4 works in the DV6t.

The AUO B156HW01 V4 is an anti-glare screen and 95% color gamut.

It is the same screen used in last year XPS, although that screen is glossy and is AUO B156HW01 V7

The screen is super bright when on full. Absoulte pleasure to use. Everything is just brillant, from the ordinary desktop icons to high quality photos.

One other thing, gaming on the panel is amasing

Thanks you
AUO B156HW01 V.4 & V.7 sold at LS are exact models.
We do not send "replacement/compatibles" for these screens, just the exact, geniune, pre-tested AUO B156HW01 V.4 (V.7
