Long story short:
HP Pavillion Dv6707us Notebook Purchased 2008
While under warranty, I notified HP that unit seemed slower, ran hotter, fan was making noise, and some sort of alarm was triggering.
Over a period of time, this started happening:
Windows (Vista 32 bit) would freeze/hang before loading to desktop. All I could do to get around this was to do forced button shutdowns and keep trying.
Eventually I'd get lucky (1 in 20 times?) and it'd go to desktop, and unit functioned fine.
Then, one day I noticed my optical drive (DVD rom) icon disappeared from my computer and from device manager
(it still had power to the LED door light)
Next was the wireless network icon (gone!), and wireless signal gone too (power light was red at switch)
Then my audio input/ouput device 'not found' error code came up.
Then a USB port became non responsive!
What the heck is going on here??
In case anyone is wondering, yes, after much difficulty and lots of workarounds, we eventually got the hard drive reformatted/returned to original HP factory software configuration (from the D: Recovery Drive).
I am currently working with HP to resolve the matter, but to date they won't honor the repair due to it NOW being out of warranty
(personally, I think they gave me "precanned" things to try and caused enough delay to exhaust the warranty, which is where it's at now).
If I have to start fixing this laptop myself, what should I start investigatiing?
