I have an HP Compaq nc8430 installed with Windows XP Professional. The screen is entirely too dim, and the culprit appears to be the ambient light sensor. I can shine my flashlight into the sensor window and the LCD lights up brilliantly. If I cover the ALS, it'll get very dark--as expected.
The probmem is, I have the ALS shut off in Windows using HPs QuickKeys, (FN+11), as well as turned off in the BIOS. I cannot turn up the brightness, nor find a way to turn off the ALS.
Is there a way to jumper past the sensor on the inverter at all, or perhaps something I'm missing? I installed the latest HP software using Softpaq, and updated the BIOS to v. F16. So far, no luck.
