dv6z-7000 BIOS F.05 vs F.06 (where to download?)

I downloaded F.05 which was the "latest" bios from the site for my laptop trying to fix a problem with it recognizing my SSD. I got it working and Windows7 installed, but the performance is lacking A LOT in the 4K random read category. I want to go back to the initial F.06 version BIOS but it's nowhere to be found on the site!

Can someone at HP update the site so I can get the latest bios F.06?

Re: dv6z-7000 BIOS F.05 vs F.06 (where to download?)

Hi,

The following steps should help.

Please download and install first the latest HP UEFI Support Environment version from here.

Plug the AC adapter to the notebook and restart the system.

On the startup repeatedly press the F2 key. The HP Diagnostics will load.

Choose from the list the ' BIOS Management ' option and then ' BIOS Rollback '.

You will be informed what is the current BIOS version and which version of BIOS will be after rollback.

Choose ' Rollback Now ' and follow the instructions.

Note:

The Bios update process is always risky. You will do this at your own risk.

On the HP_TOOLS partition browse to the path:

Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Previous

check if there are any files and report about the result. After your last reply I'm sure that there are no files, but still I would like to double check.

Re: dv6z-7000 BIOS F.05 vs F.06 (where to download?)

I tried that and looked into the previous folder and even the newer folder but there was nothing available there. I tried calling HP Support but they just pointed me to the download site with the old drivers.

The main reason I'm trying to get the updated bios is I'm hoping it fixes my issue with an SSD. I'm getting fast sequential reads/write but the 4K read speed is about a quarter of what it should be. I've got the newest AMD chipset drivers and I really believe it's an issue with the SATA controller.

Re: dv6z-7000 BIOS F.05 vs F.06 (where to download?)

Hi,

The issue with the HP updater back leveling bios was brought to HP's attention four months ago.  I almost had this same issue on one of my HP laptops.

Re: dv6z-7000 BIOS F.05 vs F.06 (where to download?)

Please download and install the latest HP Support Assistant version from here and run it.

Choose ' Maintain ' option and when the task will not be performed automatically select ' Refresh '.

If it will detect that your computer is not up to date then check is th notebook and start the update process.

It may take some time, so it is important to remain patient, do not interrupt the process. Allow the notebook to restart after applying the updated BIOS.

While this update is running:

  • do not switch off your laptop,
  • do not unplug the AC adapter,
  • do not try to run any software or do anything on the notebook.

Note:

The Bios update process is always risky. You will do this at your own risk.
