The IDT audio driver is the WRONG ONE to use , if you want sound back .
Insert the Windows 7 disk , then update the IDT audio driver to the " Intel HD audio driver " instead .
Have the system get it from the disk , and IT WILL WORK LIKE NEW .
It will list only two compatible devices , IDT audio , and High Definition Audio Device . Pick the second one , not IDT .
I realize it's an older generic driver , and it may recommend that you NOT install it . Ignore that notice .

Got speakers , and headphone works too . Good as new .
Note : future driver updates may try to change it BACK to IDT audio , in which case you will lose sound again . Just re-apply this fix if that happens .
