Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Yes, I agree the avatar is misleading.

If a person has a green expert avatar, they don't work for HP, but HP has deemed them knowledgable about HP equipment.

If a person has a blue expert avatar, they do work for HP.

I don't know if that is explained anywhere when you join the forum or not.

As long as the drive fits in the bay and the connectors line up, it will work.

SATA controllers are much more forgiving than the old IDE controllers where you definitely did not want to gamble going beyond what the service manual listed for supported hard drives.

1 TB...No problem...

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Thank you very much for your help.

I used to work in the PC business in the 80's and 90's..  but gave up, since it was going too fast at some points.

Now I see names that I have to scratch my head a few time... "Ehm.. say whay?"   lol

You're very welcome.

For me it is a hobby I enjoy, and if I can help others, I also enjoy that too.

Please post back and let us know how your HDD upgrade went, and what you ended up getting.

Best regards,

Paul

[ Edited ]

Wow... Just got home from work and heading back in at 2:00am... Wanted to expand upon my early post with the HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide and the factory installed drive list;

Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 12.7-mm (.50-in), 9.5-mm (.37-in), and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses

Serial ATA

Factory configurations: 750 GB, 5400 rpm (9.5 mm) 640 GB, 5400 rpm (9.5 mm) 500 GB, 7200 and 5400 rpm (9.5 mm) 320 GB, 7200 (7.0 mm) and 5400 rpm (9.5 mm) 250 GB, 7200 and 5400 rpm (7.0 mm)

but it appears that Paul beat me to it.

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

I bought the Seagate Momentus 1Tb drive.

Since you should be able to get more then 750Gb.

Backing up my drive now, so I can install the new one..

It better shows 1Tb and not 720Gb  lol

I'll report back later

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

If it shows ~ 930 GB, then you'll know it was fully supported.

I am very confident if it fits in the drive bay, it will.

Installed the new HD, and it's showing 930 Gb :smileyhappy:

Formatting now, and installing windows again for the 4th time lol.

Now waiting for my memory to arive to I can upgrade to 8 Gb, and I am maxed out then..

You're gonna wear that new HDD out before you even get a chance to use it.   :smileyhappy:

Glad it all worked out for you.

Best regards,

Paul
