where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Does anyone know where I can find the HW specs for the g7-1338dx?

I looked online and unable to find any info.

I wanted to upgrade the HD, but don't know what the Max is for this laptop.  500gb or 1Tb, 2Tb ?

Thank you

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Here are the specs for the HP Pavilion g7-1338dx Notebook Computer. The computer comes with a 500GB hard drive and should handle up to 2TB without issue.

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

[ Edited ]

That's the page I had as well, was more looking at a pdf file that had the specs like

Mainboard / HD options / Processor option / Memory   etc in it,  like my old dv6-12.... laptop, that had a pdf with everything in it.

is the HD,  ATA, SATA ?     2.5 Inch ?

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Hi:

Were you referring to the service manual which is in PDF format and has more info regarding the notebook (supported processors, max memory, etc)?

Hard drives would probably be SATA II (even though the manual in chapter 1, page 5 merely lists SATA).

The notebook may even be able to handle SATA III drives, especially if it has the HM65 chipset.

Just checked the manual,  and the Max HD is only 750 Gb

So I guess a 1 Tb won't work then ??

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

You're very welcome.

A 1 TB will work if you ensure it is the same thickness as yours.  Some of the larger capacity drives are thicker in depth than a 500 GB drive.

That could be an issue if the clearances are tight in your drive bay.

So, if you can get a 1 TB drive of the same thickness as yours, no problem whatsoever.

As a side note, I can't believe HP would put a slow poke 5,400 RPM drive in such a nice notebook.  I'd be tossing a 7,200 RPM drive in if I had that model.

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

i know.    but would 7200rpm not getting too warm ?  and prob. not even supported by the mainboard?

I'm looking at the specs, and the

750-GB*   640-GB*   500-GB*   320-GB*   250-GB*

Synchronous (maximum) 97 MB/sec 106 MB/sec 1.1 GB/sec 1.1 GB/sec 1.1 GB/sec

is a BIG difference...  is that even normal or not important  for  Synchromous ?

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Hi:

If you look at chapter 3, page 30, 7,200 RPM drives are clearly supported.

If you wanted a 1 TB, SATA II,III 7,200 RPM hard drive and the thickness was correct, it would work.

I am not a computer hardware engineer. I do not know what synchronous means in the context you posted.

It may have to do with transfer speed or seek time.

Re: where to find the g7-1338dx hardware specs ? want to upgrade HD

Ooh, thought you worked at HP  :smileyhappy:    looking at your Avatar.

Yes I did see that, but the whole manual is about ALL G7 laptops, so i wasn't sure what the deal was

with that.  Guess I am used to it, to have a manual just for that model, and not a univeral one.

I tried contacting HP through e-mail, but not getting anywhere, since it keeps coming back about checking my hardware, when I click on e-mail support.  after 20x doing that.. I gave up lol.

Guess I can take the plunge and just buy a 1 TB one, sinc the size is all the same.

Just hate it if it does take the HD and it's not doing the partition right, and overwriting the clusters..

(if that's still possible... I remember that from the good old days, where a 40 Gb HD ended up as 300 Gb and everything was corrupted...)
