To start I have a dv7 4180ea
Some times when im using the laptop the amd display driver crashes, making the screen frezze then go black, a couple of seconds later the screen comes on and a little message saying it has stopped working and successfully recovered. This happens 3 or 4 times a week atm. To fix this i have tried reinstalling the driver, updating the bios and updating the driver.
From day one I have had a blue screen of death everynow and again, recently I have had this 4 times in 6 days. The message states that a error has occurred and its shutting the laptop down to prevent damage, it then dumps the physical memory shuts down and reboots. To fix this so far I have tried increaseing the physical memory to 2.5 times that of the ram. Also I have done hard drive and memory tests.
Can anyone help at all?

in regards to the graphics problem.
I am having the excact same problem and the issue is known to HP.
Via Windows7 you can try to analyse the problem online and then it gives a message that it is known Hp problem.
Then it sends you to a survey from HP to fill out for people having this problem.
I haven't heard any solution from HP for this yet or anywhere else.
Think it is best to learn to live with the problem..

Yes I have already tried that although they never got back to me on that one. Since I wrote the thread I have restored the laptop to orginial factory condition as advised to by tech support. After doing this and getting back in to the system with out putting any of my data back on, it crashed with in 5 mins.
Yes i know living with it will most likely end up being the case its just very annoying on a 3 month old laptop.

Did it crash with BSOD or the "normal" few seconds crash of the display driver?
Before you did factory restore...
Were you doing something specific when you had bsod screen? Games or video or... ?

I have only ever had one of them at a time so i would get the normal few seconds crash of the display driver. The bsod can happen when doing nothing along with the display driver crashing. Usually it happens when i have a couple of tabs open in firefox- one usually playing the radio and msn on.
Since the factory reset the display driver has crashed 2 times and I have had one bsod

And when you go into the Event Log Viewer of windows...
Do you see any specific critical errors or something at the time when you had a bsod?

Right for the bsod
the source is kernel power
event id 41
task catagory is 63

Open Command Prompt as Administrator...
Enter sfc /scannow and let it run..
When finished exit...
Update all drivers from graphics to sound, bios ...
If still you BSODs occur, I would advise you to call HP support and have them fix it..
Then it's probably hardware problem..

Scan has finished with out it saying it found anything.
Earlier today i updated everything i could find.
I guess it now really a waiting game to see when it happens next.
I am currently waiting for a reply of hp support as the reset to factory conditions was their way of seeing if the problem is hardware related which it seems it is.
Thanks for your help
