Black screen and turns off [ Edited ]

Whenever i try to play a game it gets a few minutes in then the screen goes black, then it turns off. but it turns off to were when i start it back up it resumes from where i just was. The computer is an HP Envy 14 beats edition.

Does your Envy notebook have switchable graphics?

Are you using the High performance GPU or the Power saving GPU?

srry should have used this first. but yes it has switchable graphics and it is on high performance right now

That should do the trick with games that require a video solution with some power.

i works a lot better and i can play for an hour or so but the problem is still there. could it be over heating?

I would check the intakes and exhaust ports and clean them with a can of compressed air. You can check the temperature by using a free utility by CPUID called  Hardware monitor. Are you getting any error messages at all?

there are no error messages or warnings it just turns black then the fan slows down and it shuts down

Is your notebook still in warranty?

i believe it expired about a month ago
