Black screen, blinking buttons- tx2500

I've got an HP "tx2500z entertainment pc". I left it open when I went into the other room, and it went to sleep. When I came back it was still on, but the screen would not light back up.

 

The screen stays black, and the lights by the "capslock" and by the "end" buttons are blinking. I've turned it off & back on, taken the battery out, unplugged it, etc. I can't figure out what is wrong or how to fix it. 

 

This happened once about a year ago (while it was under warranty), but I can't remember how it was resolved. School starts again soon, and I really need my laptop in working condition- and I can't afford to send it off to be fixed.

 

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong or what I can do to resolve this?
