My daughter's HP Presario used for school. Mains power supply OK. Battery condition uncertain - 1) Plug in DC power: LED at DC socket is on, Battery lite on bright, front power lite dim, HDU lite dim. 2) Press on/off button: back lite blinks once, wireless lite blinks once. No sounds or other LEDs/lites show. I have tried removing battery for 15mins, replaced - no different. This system is protected by router firewall, rarely uses wireless except at school, and has ESET anti virus. What further tests can be undertaken to test this 12 month old notebook (has school course material on it :/ )

Try a hard reset first
remove the battery and the DC power plug.
press and hold the power button for > fifteen seconds.
leave the battery out and plug in the DC power plug.
press the power button.
here is a link to your notebook's web support page.
Perform all of the tests on this HP web page to diagnose the black screen no start condition.
Best regards,
erico
