Re: Black screen :(

Enter BIOS by tapping away at the F10 key immediately after powering on the laptop.Use Diagnostics to test the hard drive.

Re: Black screen :(

Here is a link to someone else having the same problem on their laptop in another post here:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HP-G62-Laptop-won-t-post-start-up/td-p/1063971

What it come down to is that your video chip is starting to develop cracks in the little balls of solder that it sits on. The new lead free solder has a greater tendency to crack with thermal cycling.  The cracks act as an insulator and your video chip stops working or works sporadically. I would not recommend the oven baking method but have someone with a temperature controlled hot air gun or better yet an actual reflow station do it for you.  The problem with the baking method is that it heats up all the chips, capacitors, etc.  The hot air and reflow stations can shield the other devices with aluminum foil and just heat the video chip and the solder under it.  If you want a really good fix, some shops can reball it with balls of lead solder (which completely removes the lead free stuff and replaces it with balls of lead/tin solder).

Re: Black screen :(

Um I looked at the post but as far as I understood that person's problem is they can't start it up mine is fine works fine just like ones a week the screen randomly goes black and I can't do anything so I turn it off. I haven't dropped it or anything did a check using the HP advisor everything looks fine. Normally the black screen happens when I run a game or have skype on call with a few vidoes open wonder if its some sort of way to prevent overload?

Re: Black screen :(

When this happens, it isn't an instant thing usually.  What you are seeing could easily be the start of a video chip failure. Maybe one of the experts can give another suggestion.

Hi fireangel the issue you have could be as others said a video chip problem but it also could be overheated memory (looked in other forums on the messages you found >sysdata.xml and the .dmp file ..could be from the game you are playing>memory issue bad stick  ..1st thing to check is a simple one check to see if you have your machine using hibernate that could also be a factor if not in hibernate mode or it could be that when u have it go to sleep in say 2 minutes while your in idle it goes black... check the memory by using the bios tapping  f10 when laptop boots up go in either advanced or diagnostics and run memory test and u can run hard drive test again if you'd like then you can post if you find any error messages, when playing computer games off or online always check the recommended portion and not just the requirements on the package or online system requirements..you can also check to see if your video driver needs updating ..always look for the simple solutions before getting into major hardware issues...overheating can cause multiple types of issues that may look like something drastic but isnt ..then if all else fails then look into hardware solutions. I would also and im sorry if im adding more but just so i dont forget ..you can try uninstalling the game to see if the black screen goes away (system restore or using the uninstall from withing windows and with skype maybe you need to update to latest version if not already.:smileyhappy: i just now looked at the codes where it has BCCode 9f and it has something to do with hibernation from what ive read on this code.
