Blank Screen with Blinking Cursor in Left Corner....

Product name: HP G62 Notebook PC

Product number: XG960UA#ABA

Operating system: Vista

 

I am not getting an error message or any message whatsoever. My computer was fine all day long til it started running a little slow, so I decided to restart it. When I restarted it, it acted like it was going to start up then it went to a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. I have tried restoring the computer back to factory settings but there is no option for that when I press F10.

Hi,

 

Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f11 as you start the notebook to see if this will launch Recovery Manager?

Okay, I tried shutting it down and tapping on the f11,  but it doesn't do anything besides the blank screen and blinking cursor.

Hi,

 

Ok, once again, shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Okay, thank you. I did the memory test and it passed. It is now working on the primary hard disk self test.

I did both tests, and they were both passing.

Hi,

 

Can you access Windows Recovery Console by tapping away at f8 as you start the notebook?

I am having the exact same problem and my computer has passed the memory and hard drive tests.  I managed to get the computer to start in Media mode.  I can see all of my files, which leads me to believe that my memory and hard drive are, in fact, OK.  However, I still cannot start the computer with windows.  Please help.  My computer is less than 13 months old and at the very least, I would like to save all my files onto a zip drive.

Customer service is not very helpful when pressed.  They are not allowed to do or say anything "off the script".

Interesting. Given the experience I've been having with HP support, I will never purchase another HP product of any kind.  I've had a Thinkpad since 2002 (that's right, 10 years) and it still works.  I've never had a major problem apart from a little trouble with the fan recently. 

 

I find it inexcusable that my HP Pavilion dm4 is not even 13 months old and that HP refuses to help. Not to mention that too many others have the same problem.
