Blue Screen after refusing to turn on for 2 weeks

For the past two weeks my dv4 has been refusing to turn on, it sounds like it's starting up, but the screen remains black and eventually shuts off, this morning a blue screen popped up saying fatal system failure and all my files were being dumped?!

I called HP and they want $60 just to talk about it! So they can tell me to send it in and then charge me $800 for "repairs" I'm sure.

Anyone found a solution for this? I've found so many forums complaining about this same issue. Why is HP not doing anything about it?!?

Re: Blue Screen after refusing to turn on for 2 weeks

When you have a blue screen, it is not "dumping" your files, it's making a "memory dump" - creating a file to record what's loaded in the system memory at the time, so that the "dump file" can be used to diagnose what caused the problem and blue screen. Some of the info saved to the "dump file" is also displayed on the blue screen -- like an error code -- which is the first clue as the nature of the problem, do you remember what was the code?

If not, read the post on top of this forum about BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) first.

Re: Blue Screen after refusing to turn on for 2 weeks

I have everything backed up, so that wasnt concerning me. I can't remember the code and once again am unable to get the machine to turn on anymore (black screen, key lights flashing)

I know inevitably I will have to replace the motherboard. Just wondering if anyone has found a temporary fix, HP will no longer be getting any more money from me.

Re: Blue Screen after refusing to turn on for 2 weeks

Black Screen sometimes is caused by video driver or video hardware, consider update video driver and maybe bios.
