1. Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook PC
2. windows 7
3. Monitor won't even start, closest thing to a message is the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights flashing twice every few seconds
4. Battery was dying, power cord wasn't always registering, computer died in the middle of a PC game and has not started since
The only thing I've heard that sounds plausible is that some of the boot drivers are corrupt, but I'm not sure what the flashing lights indicate, as there is no troubleshooting in the manual

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Here's a guide to the codes: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam
I think your bios is corrupted. Get back.

Yep, that seems to be the issue. How do I download the BIOS update without the laptop working?
I read the links, and they're just sources on how to find the updates, but not how to fix the lappy, if it's fixable.

Hello again,
For something like this with a corrupted bios on your lappie, it needs to be plugged into a diagnostic computer. It's not something that can just be done with a flash drive. Sorry. . . you have to have the proper hardware and software, like a local computer shop or Hp. Wish you luck.

Lame...well last question then, as far as data recovery goes, I can get an adapter to turn the HD into an external, right? Do you happen to know which one I'll need? a friend lent me his, but it wasn't the right one

Hello,
Okay, so you're going to do this. If you're going to do this with the hdd, why don't you just save the laptop? Get a floppy drive and save that laptop. External floppys aren't that expensive. I always have one on hand. You seem knowledgeable enough to surf the web and find what you need bootwise for that laptop? I'm being honest. As for the cable, just buy a notebook ide/sata to usb 2.0/3.0 adapter. But, why, if you're going to save the laptop with a floppy drive? All of the programs that you'll need can be found on and are on the net. But you have to be sure that you can do this. . . saving. Anyway. . . I'm done with this.
