Compaq laptop won't start up, lights blinking

I have a Compaq CQ61-420US laptop with Windows 7. When I turn it on, the screen is blank and the lights blink intermittently. I have tried doing the following...

- hard reset (forced shut down, unplugged power)
- pressing F11 to reset to factory settings (pressing F11 and holding it down did not do anything, the screen still stayed blank)

What could have caused this and how do I fix it? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Thanks! I will try to see what the code is. On a side note, the lights blinking are by the caps and number lock, none on the charger light. Does that make a difference? (The lightning bolt symbol)

So I checked the code and it's blinking once, therefore there's a CPU problem?

Product number is WA976UA#ABA running on Windows 7

Hi Cattran5,

A CPU not functional will be either your processor or your motherboard is not working properly.  Here is a document for Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot that has steps for testing different components.
