Computer won't turn on

My computer simply won't turn on. I've had trouble with this before but it's always turned on again after a day or so but it's now been unable to turn on for 5 days. I don't know how to sort it out.

Re: Computer won't turn on

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and remove the battery. Now hold down the Power Button on the notebook for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.

Re: Computer won't turn on

This option worked for me, but can you please explain what causes this to happen? Will I continue dealing with this, or is there something I should do now to make it NOT happen again? Thanks!

Re: Computer won't turn on

Sounds like an motherboard to me. Get it fix now before warranty runs out. Motherboards can be very costly. You really should not heft to power hard test an new computer, this tell me there is an engineer problem with HP laptops.

Hope this helps.

Re: Computer won't turn on

Hi,

This problem is caused by a build up of static charge - the solution of holding down the power button with the battery and adapter removed just dispels this residual charge.  Laptops are generally more prone to this as they're frequently handled, move slightly in the bags used to carry them etc - all of which can create an unwanted static charge.  However, this solution should only be rarely needed, so if the problem re-occurs on a regular basis it would be wise to have the issue looked at while the machine is still under warranty.

Re: Computer won't turn on

I have a Presario f500 (f579wm) I try to turn on and the power llight comes on for a second and then off.

I have tried taking the battery out and unplugging it and holding down the power button for 90 sec.

Still not coming on.

I checked the power cord and its reading 18.6 volts, battery is reading 11.6

Anything else I can do?

Thanks

GlennO
