DV6-1210sa Freezing

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

HP DV6-1210SA

Full specs

Hi

I've been having trouble with my laptop freezing up, this started about 3 months ago at first it only happened when playing some games which made me think it was overheating,I have since changed the thermal paste, cleaned fan/vent and bought a cooling pad but the problem still persists. It will freeze up forcing me to force shutdown by holding the power button after which it will be 5-10 minutes before it will boot (if i try earlier than that the lights and fan start for about 2 seconds then it turns off again).

The strange part is during testing for heat and other things it could of been I've noticed one game works perfectly fine, the game in question is actually more system intensive than any other I play and takes the system to higher temps but still works? Also its started happening during fairly basic things like watching videos on some websites but not all or playing flash games on some websites but not all.

Another thing that recently started was that the laptop wouldnt run on battery but that seems to of randomly fixed its self.

Before this started I had only ever had one other problem which was a lot of Atapi errors in windows error log linked to an IDE (Cdrom) which i disabled and that stopped.

I have done a lot of things to try and fix the problem, System restore, Clean windows install from disk, tested each stick of memory alone, re seated CPU aswell as a lot of others I cant remember.

I did run the Memory & hard drive tests from BIOS, these also caused the system to freeze however the time they ran varied greatly from 2 hours to less than 1 minute. So i ran memtest from a bootable usb and the hard drive makers bootable HD test both with no errors or freezing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and don't hesitate to ask for any information you need.

Thanks

Barry

Re: DV6-1210sa Freezing

Quick update,

On the off chance it made a difference I set my laptop to power saver setting and tried playing a game and some other things that always caused my system to freeze within 5-10mins, works perfectly fine been going for over an hour with no problems if abit slow, looked through the advanced power settings and the only difference between the plans if Max cpu state, Its set to 100% on performance and balanced both of which froze its only 50% on power saver I've been slowly edging it up by 5% play for 30 mins 5% play etc work all the way uptil i set it to 100% then it froze even on power saver.

Could this be due to a damaged CPU? Before i changed the thermal paste and cleaned the fans my CPU would easily get to 90-98 degrees (now it runs at about 60 under full load running prime95 for over an hour).

Only other thing I can think of it some kinda of power problem where my system has a short fall in power to run the cpu at 100% and thus dies, I doubt its the actual power supply or socket as it still freezes at 100% cpu on battery maybe something on the motherboard?
