Hi Cheryl and all,
Two weeks ago I bought a brand new DV6-2150CA. I reformatted it and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bits. Then, from the HP website, I downloaded and installed only these: 1 - the new BIOS, 2 - The Intel chipset Driver and 3 - The Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver, 4 - The JMicron Card Reader.
Then I went to Windows Update and downloaded and installed all the updates. All was beautiful at that point. Then I installed all my apps, tweaked my firewall, etc. Over these 2 weeks, I can say that all worked fine.
Then, I needed to burn a CD so I installed CDBurnerXP 64 Bits, which is fully compatible with Windows 7 64 bits. After installation, I noticed that the burner application could not see my DVD-ROM drive. On their support site, they mention that installing the 'Intel Storage Matrix Manager' would help.
I remember that I saw the exact version of 'Intel Storage Matrix Manager' for my laptop on the HP support web site so I downloaded and installed it and rebooted.
As a matter of fact, I was able to see my DVD-ROM drive inside the burning application.
NOW, if I am not mistaken, this is when my laptop started to randomly freeze. It happened 3 times now. I looked back at all I have done in the past 2 weeks and I said to myself: Maybe it is this 'Intel Storage Matrix Manager' that I installed at the end. So yesterday, I un-installed it and rebooted. Until now, all is good but it has been only a day. That is not enough for a random freezing issue to say that it is fixed. Time will tell.
I also went into the BIOS and performed a Full hard drive test and a memory test and all is OK.
I just wanted to share my experience to see if anybody has the same issue and could confirm the Intel Matrix behavior.
Cheryl, any comments?
Thanks for your time.

It has been almost 2 weeks, without a freeze! that is incroyable. Since I uninstalled this Intel Matrix Storage Driver, all is good. People should pay more attention at this Intel Matrix Storage Driver. There must be a conflict of some sort with some component or a Windows Update.

This is very interesting. Why are more people not experiencing this issue?

Thank you SO MUCH for posting your issue and its resolution--I'm 95% certain this is exactly what's happening to my 3-day-old Pavilion dm4t laptop.
I've tried all kinds of updates and diagnostics without success, but I'll try removing the Intel widget. We'll see what happens!

Hi my name is Marc and just bought a new dv6-3025dx laptop. I got it at best buy took it home and it worked fine until i installed office 2007 after that it started to freeze up randomly. i exchanged it for a new one as it was still under fourteen days but the same thing happened with the next one. so i uninstalled office thinking that was the problem but its still happening. is this matrix thingy on a new computer or is it an extra that most people get. the computer is on factory settings except for kapirsky anti virus. i really like the computer but i need it for school and unless i get a new one every 14 days id like to get if working right.
thanks in advance for any help.
