DV6-6145dx freezes upon _exiting_ full-screen 3D applications/games.

My DV6 can run 3D games with no problems at all. HOWEVER! The moment I exit the application, the computer completely freezes up with black screens (both main screen and external).

This seems to happen only when exiting full-screen 3D applications.

I have the latest video drivers, and a memory scan turned up no problems. What should I check next?

Re: DV6-6145dx freezes upon _exiting_ full-screen 3D applications/games.

Update: It freezes up when exiting full-screen mode, not just when exiting the application. As in, if I change the in-game settings to be windows instead of full-screen, everything locks up on black screens.

Re: DV6-6145dx freezes upon _exiting_ full-screen 3D applications/games.

Double update: It *only* happens when the external VGA monitor is plugged in! Disconnect that, and everything works as it should. But, with the external display connected, changing from full-screen to windowed freezes up everything.

Actually, Fn keys still work. Fn-space toggles the light around the touchpad, Fn-F12 changes the color of the wifi-connection light. Caps-lock doesn't work though.

Also, sound continues to be played briefly after the freeze, but then goes as silent as the rest of the system.

Disconnecting the external monitor _after_ the freeze does not fix it.

Re: DV6-6145dx freezes upon _exiting_ full-screen 3D applications/games.

Triple update: OK, after further testing, it *doesn't* only happen when the external VGA monitor is plugged in. I just rebooted with the external monitor disconnected, never plugged it in, started full-screen application and changed to windows mode. Crash.

I'm not sure why it worked previously to disconnect the monitor and then change from full-screen. It's difficult to troubleshoot, because it constantly locks up and requires a hard restart.

Any suggestions from anybody? What to try next? Anything else to help isolate the cause of the problem?

Hello,

You've earned this: please right click anywhere on your desktop and then click Graphics. Make sure that you have the graphic settings properly adjusted, leaning towards Performance should do, okay?

Re: DV6-6145dx freezes upon _exiting_ full-screen 3D applications/games.

Hi SSDdrive,

There is no "Graphics" option when I right-click. What system are you on? This is a DV6-6145dx, running Win7.

I found a Performance - Quality slider in the AMD Vision Control Panel (under Gaming Performance | Standard 3D Settings). It was in the middle (Balanced) and I slid it to Performance.

However, that does not seem to have changed anything. Going from Full-Screen 3D to Windowed locks up the computer.

It runs fine in Full-Screen 3D-Accelerated mode without any problems, it's just that when I try to quit, everything freezes.

Hello,

Apparently you don't know anything about win7, your model laptop or the CCC? "There is no "Graphics" option when I right-click. What system are you on? This is a DV6-6145dx, running Win7." !

I mean, there is no "Graphics" option when I right-click. Look:

Nothing says "Graphics". OK? I'm not trying to insult you.

Does anybody ELSE have any helpful suggestions regarding my initial problem: The laptop freezes when I change out of full-screen mode in any program.

Hello for the last,

Now you're just being. . . whatever. . . . The graphics is the AMD VISION Engine Control Center,  which is the Catalyst Control Center, which is where all of your laptop's graphics settings abound....
