So I got an HP dv6-something for uni last year which failed so I got an upgrade to a DV7 3101 and I have had, in some cases exactly the same problem as the dv6, when coming out of sleep sometimes the backlight will not come on at all.
Other times it will come out of sleep and the keyboard, mouse and hotkeys will not respond, but the cursor in the password box still flashed. When I closed the lid the screen went out but it didn't sleep. It becomes fine after it is switched off and on again.
It is windows 7 64 bit. Never any error messages

Too many background programs on the desktop?
Are you running something or more than one program in the background? Try closing all xtras, then let the computer sleep, awaken the computer . . . If it awakens properly, turn one xtra (background program) back on, let the computer sleep again, continue opening and running your usual background programs and sleeping and waking until the issue is resolved.

It doesn't happen every time, it is intermittent which makes it even more annoying ![]()

Your laptop is a nice laptop. . . . Good specs. . . .
Do me a favor, will you go to power options, switch to high performance, let it sleep, wake it, and then get back to me.

Hmm yeah, I thought paying £600 for a laptop meant that it would atleast last 1 year without needing a repair -_-
It is already on high performance ![]()
I needed a high spec laptop cause I am doing an engineering course and CAD programs need specs.
the screen refused to come on again earlier today.

Your laptop comes with 2 gpu's. Which one does it have?
I'm sure that you've tried this?

I'm researching right now.
If the graphic's problem can be observed when the computer boots into the BIOS setup environment, contact HP customer support for further assistance. If the graphic images are fine until the computer boots to the Windows desktop, the problem can probably be resolved by upgrading or reinstalling the latest graphics driver.

Still researching. . .
This is the new driver for the hd 4530 . . . Do you already have it installed?

If it were a rattler. . . .
The hd 4530 is a very finicky card. If the drivers are corrupted or outdated the card's performance will nosedive.
Also, please checkout this link:
From the research I have performed, these drivers and the new CCC should work with your 4530 card.

So, I take it that the issue has been resolved?
