Dv6-6001sg randomly crashes, I have no clue why

Hello!

I have purchased a Pavilion dv6-6001sg. Shortly after setting up Windows 7 and while I was installing an application, the system shut itself down. No blue screen, no error message or anything similar was displayed, it just shut down and immediately started to reboot. In only two days, this has happened 4 times in various situations. After the second time, I launched the HP Support Assistant and installed all the updates there where. That seemed to fix the problem, as I was able to do several hours of internet surfing and graphics-intensive gaming on it (as a kind of stress-test). Everything was fine, until the system crashed again (that was the fourth time) while I was installing a game

The shutdowns happened two times during an installation, one time while I was surfing on the web and one time while I was playing a game. As far as I can tell, it has nothing to do with overheating. The system works absolutely fine, until it suddenly shuts down.

Can anyone help me?

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

If both the above tests pass, try the following.

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.

Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Part of this process will require a restart to check the drive.

Regards,

Re: Dv6-6001sg randomly crashes, I have no clue why

Let me thank you for your fast reply, I really appreciate it.

I did all of the tests, and every single one passed. I still had one crash.

But today, Windows surprisingly notified me of a device that didn't work properly (the error message hasn't been there before). It's a Standard-USB-Hostcontroller on Port#0002.Hub#0003, the error code is 43. Maybe that has something to do with the systems sudden reboot?

What can/should I do next?

Re: Dv6-6001sg randomly crashes, I have no clue why

Hi,

Personally, as this is a brand new machine, I would suggest returning the notebook to the retailer you purchased it from and get a replacement.

If you are unable to return it to the retailer, contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired under warranty.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Regards,
