Hi, I'm the Orignial poster of this topic.
A few days ago I upgraded the BIOS and video card drivers to the very latest, and my display freezing issue has stopped.
Intel HD Graphics driver 8.15.10.2141
BIOS version F.0D 04-14-2010
Hope this helps. :-)

Installing the Intel HD graphics driving seems to have fixed my random freezing.

so my problem has returned. I installed the driver while it was using only the laptop display. I now have multiple monitors hooked up to a advanced docking station. It seems to only pause (freeze) the actually display. The issue is easily re-produced while playing sound and using a visualization effect. Every few seconds the visualization will pause for up to 3 seconds. It is more random when typing or clicking around in menus, but it does happen while using mouse and keyboard as well.
I have tried to swap out the keyboard and mouse and it still occurs with a wired keyboard and mouse. I was using display port and I tried using the DVI cables, but it still occurs. I think I'm down to the advanced docking station causing this problem.

Hello there,
We are also facing the similar issue at our corporate. However, we also have some machines which don't use docking station and still having the issue. I think there is a genuine bug in these machines.
Someone from HP need to respond to this thread
Thanks,

We are having the same issue here in Win Xp SP3, and we have like 500 of these laptops (8440p) , I just found out that if you roll back to these drivers (6.14.10.5179 (19 Jan 2010)) the problem seems to go away , will post if it indeed works.
It seems that this problem is only on a fraction of these PC's so that makes it problematic to find a solution , why aren't all of them having the same problem , mayby different set of motherboards ?
Here's the link to the drivers I was testing that seems to do the trick -> http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/S
PS. if you are having problems uninstalling / installing the drivers , I suggest that you do it in safemode , I had such problems and safemode was the way to go =)

Hi all,
I'm also habing this problem, but not only on HP8440p. I'm also having with HP2540p and someone reported me that on other site they're having problems with HP dc8000sff (not a laptop).
I already updated BIOS to latest version, installed latest video drivers HP 6.14.10.5303 sp51234.exe without any luck.
I saw in a forum someone telling that he started having problems when he updated from 5268 to 5284 video drivers, so in 2 laptops I downgraded the video drivers to the 5268 version, but only yesterday, and this is an intermitent problem.
On another one I'm testing the Intel new video driver 5313 also.
I think this problem must be video driver related or memory related, because if we make a remote desktop to a pc which is having problem at that moment, we can work perfectly on it by the rdp connection.
Or the video driver is "messing" all thing up or even can be the way Windows XP manages the shared memory from the system and the video card.
I already opened a HP case but without any good tip or response.
If anyone knows anything more it would be great to hear it ![]()
Cheers everyone

Has anyone had any luck with this issue. I have over a dozen laptops(8440p) that I know of with this issue and we have tried everything to resolve it with no success. We have updated the BIOS, updated all the drivers, ran the diagnostics which came out ok, and disabled a few settings in the BIOS. Two things that have seem consistent are that all my users are using a Verizon aircard and it seems to happen most when coming out of standby. Any help would be appreciated since HP support just tells me to replace the HDD.

Hi all,
I and my colleagues faced the same issue with the 8440p (Windows 7 Professional english, 3Gb, Core i5, Norton Antivirus) used at office.
By the way, I also own a notebook HP Pavilion dv4-2030br (Windows 7 Home Premium Portuguese, 4Gb, Core i3, Norton Antivirus) which also have the same "feature".
The problem is easily reproducible with my 8440p, so it happens a dozen times a day (Internet Explorer --> Start menu, or when I use Office Applications --> File menu --> Open, Save, Save As, etc).
Is there anyone at HP which can help us????
Regards.

I have similar issues
I bought my 8440p about a month ago, no issues. 2 days ago the display started freezing randomly and doesnt unfreeze. I have to hard reboot hence crashing and losing any unsaved work.
I am only using outlook and internet explorer and the freeze can happen 5 minutes after reboot or 1 hour, but it is never going more than an hour without it happening. Highly frustrating.
I downloaded the latest intel and nvidia drivers and this did not work, i then back dated to those recommended by HP which are much older, and this didnt work.
Any ideas please?
Cheers,
Russ
