Elitebook 8540w, Windows 7 Won't Boot/Display

Was working fine on my docking station. I put it into sleep mode (I guess) and removed from the dock. When I later tried to turn it on, I got nothing but a black screen + some status lights. I tried removing the battery for several minutes, but when I reattach the battery and turn it on again, I get the same thing.

One thought I had, is that maybe it is still trying to display to a monitor on my docking station. I am going to try from the dock later today (at office), but connecting an external monitor at home did not help. Is there some kind of 'hard shutdown' option I am missing.

Update - Looks like the issue is with the laptop monitor. I can get to to display on an external monitor.

Did you ever fix this.  I have an 8540w  and unless i power down the doecking station every time i dock it will not bot in the docking station
