i also have just got a g62 and i get not responding messages in most programs. after a few
minutes it clear but is very annoying. mine has been sent to texaS FOR CHECK and they
said it was fixed but not so. think i have a lemon

Ditto. Just bought it Saturday and had problems with it freezing, getting "not responding" message at top of screen. Sometimes screen dims for unresponsive period. This happened with internet use or with no internet running and just using Word, or even just opening the control panel. Waiting a minute cleared it up, but when it happens at times every few minutes, it is unacceptable. Took it in to Geek Squad who found no problems. Will likely return it as it simply does not run well.

I am very annoyed at this problem
The reason I got this laptop was because I wanted something faster and more reliable than my other 4 years old laptop.
It turns out this HP62 is slowing me down with this Not Responding problem.
I am thinking of returning this.

Hello to all who have posted on this thread.
It would help greatly if you could provide the following information:
Product Number: ( but not your serial number as that is private.)
You can find both the Product number and BIOS version by launching HP Support Assistant either from the desktop or by typing it into the Start>search field and then clicking on HP support Assistant in the list.
Then you should be able to see the information at the bottom of the HP SA Screen, if you can’t please choose Troubleshoot>General Specifications and both the product number and BIOS version should be displayed.
You can also tap the “f10” key after pressing the power button if your notebook is powered off and again both pieces of information may be found in the BIOS.
If there are any particular steps to duplicate your issue, please list those too.

I just bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas - same issue. Geek Squad says there is nothing wrong (go figure).
"Not Responding" happens with no regular reasoning... could be browsing web, could be using iTunes, could be using Word, could be using HP Support Assistant. Machine stalls for anywhere from 30 sec to 2 min then "catches up". I have run the HP diagnostics - nothing helped.
Would love to not take this back but may have no choice.

I am experiencing the same issues on my G62-340US (AMD Turion II, 2.2 GHz, Product Number XH066UA#ABA) notebook but have some more information.
I am running a 32-bit version of the Norton Internet Security Suite that came with the notebook.
I use the 64-bit versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer with the Adobe Flash Player Square (64-bit version of Flash) Preview. I like to keep about 5-7 tabs open with my gmail, youtube video, and pandora.
I use the 32-bit version of Chrome (not sure if it is running the 32-bit or 64-bit flash). I also like to run with 5-7 tabs open with my gmail, a youtube video and pandora.
I am using the Windows Basic theme (aero and previews disabled)
I am running HP Digital Imaging Monitor (32-bit program for HP Photosmart C7250)
I have noticed that the slow down comes most often when I am doing something with Flash player. For example, each time Pandora preloads a new song in the background, the computer will lock up and still play whatever song it is on. On Youtube, I may try loading two videos at once and it causes the lockup.
This lockup also occurs when playing video games such as League of Legends. The frequency and duration of the locking up/rushing in my video games decreased as I disabled Aero and limited the Norton program's monitoring functions.
Despite disabling Aero and limiting Norton, the slow downs still occur with anything involving Flash or video.
When the slowdown occurs, I notice that the "Disk" tab in Resource Monitor reads "0 Bytes/sec Disk I/O" and "100% Highest Active Time". The "Disk" tab also does not display any entries. Despite this, the hard disk in use light on the left side of the laptop stays a solid white light. Once the slowdown stops and the rushing begins, the "Disk" tab begins to populate entries and spout measure. The hard disk in use light also begins to resume normal operation (sporadic on and off with periods of sustained solid white). Norton will state that the application using Flash is using a lot of performance (write to disk ~600MB amd read from disk ~300MB)
I suspect the integrated graphics card is trying to use the shared memory. It doesn't find the proportion of shared memory in the ram sufficent and then uses the proportion of shared memory that is on the harddrive (much slower). If that is the case, is there a way for HP to release a BIOS update that allows users to DECREASE the amount of shared memory the Integrated Card uses?
I hope this gets answered on Expert Day tomorrow...

After reading all the updates in this blog, with no results... I suspected a java issue. I updated to this latest Java Versiov 6 Update 23. So far... no system freezes. Recommend checking whether your system needs Java update at this link: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=j

I am experiencing this problem as well.
Intel core i3
I have to force it to shut down sometimes and have already (since August) had to restore the system a few times because my Outlook stops working.

There is a newer BIOS available for your Notebook
Go to the link and then choose the BIOS F.23, then download it to your Notebook and run it locally, make sure you follow the directions, it's important.
