My HP 550 (which is still under warranty) only lasts for about 27 minutes off the power cord. Then it just cuts off, no warning(usually the screen goes black and the fan runs until the battery is drained on a low battery) and when I look to the side the light above the power input place(not sure what that's called) goes from its usual teal to a really bright near white teal.
Everything else is perfectly fine....oh and when I restart it I get the error message saying that it was unable to start/shut down and do I wish to start in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. there is no system resume and my laptop as no restore points for some reason. I really need some help here. Is there a quick fix or do i have to send it in?

I have the same problem with an HP 550 bought June 2009, luckily with an extended 2 year warranty (not claimed on yet). The laptop started showing some strange power setting fluctuations with the screen going from full brightness to power save mode and now gives up altogether when on battery, soon going to a black screen where you can just make out the image. Shut the lid, plug it in and re-start and it seems fine.
Has anyone had this rectified please?
