I have a HP 8710w that will not power up. I know the battery is bad but it has always worked using the power supply. Today it will not turn on at all. No lights, no sound, nothing.
I tried the trick of taking out the battery, disconnecting the power source and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Then plugging it back in without the battery... but it didn't work.
It was odd last night when I put it into sleep mode, the battery and power light was flashing.. (power, battery, power, battery, powery, battery) Never saw that before.
Any ideas?

did you ever get an anwer for this?
I have an 8710w too. Sat for about 6 months of non use. When I tried to start up, it acts like it's going to power up - fans come on, but then shuts itself off, then turns itself on and keeps doing this for ever. I have to hold the power button down to force off then stays off until I plug power back in again. I tried different battery, tried powering up without battery, verified rtc battery ok at 3 volts, disconnected that and reconnected, connected power as recommended. same thing. screen never comes on. I saw somewhere someone mentioned holding down all 4 arrow keys at bootup. Not sure what that does but when I do that, power does not turn off. nor does it continue to boot - screen still blank.
Hopefully someone has ideas on this.
