HP DV5t won't wake up from sleep/hibernation [ Edited ]

Bought 2 months ago, factury refurbished. Win7 home premium, 64bit. Goes to sleep or hibernation (I don't know which) after a couple of hours of not using. I get a slowly flashing power button light and a slowly flashing wifi light. No matter what I do,( all the thing suggested in the manual, push power button, push ctrl/alt/del) the laptop will not come back to wake state. I have to remove the ac adapter and battery,then plug back in to get it going again. Very frustrating. I Called tech support, they said bios update will solve the problem, did not work. I turned off hibernation in energy options, did not work. Changed sleep time when on battery and turned sleep off when on ac.  Still does the same thing. What is happening here?  Please help. Anne

Sorry I can't help.  I am having the exact same problem!!  I have been in contact with HP support 7 times and they keep trying the same thing over and over.  I've updated Bios, changed my settings, did a power drain - whatever they ask.  I have even factory restored my laptop twice now. 

Yesterday I got fed up after the tech thought he solved my problem by disabling the sleep mode.  I want my sleep mode to work!!  They won't let me speak with a manager.  I stayed on hold until the phone automatically cut me off.  Now I'm waiting for a call that they are late on for a supervisor to approve my case to be sent in for repairs.  They keep giving me the run around. Seems like a simple problem - and seems to be happening a lot now that I look it up.  Award winning service - please!!

Thanks, I am actually glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I ended up disabling sleep mode when on ac, but still have sleep mode  on in battery mode and  need to remove the battery (and ac adapter if connected) to get the laptop out of sleep/hibernation and have it restart. What's the use of these functions if they don't work?  I still have 6 weeks of warranty left and will ask to send it back to hp for resolution, if there is one. If this is a known problem, HP should fix it. I'm also hoping someone will post a solution here in the forum.  Thanks, Anne

We're having the same problem.  It's very frustrating.  It only started when we sent our Pavillion dv5t  back to the factory (it's under extended warranty) and the motherboard was replaced in August 2011.  Ever since it came back, once it goes into sleep mode we can't wake it up or restart it.  Have to take out the battery every time to get it to turn on again.  Called Tech Support, who said it's a known problem, and has been fixed on more recent models.  (This laptop was bought in June 2010, so it isn't that old.  Product WE847AV, serial CNU02136D9, running Windows 7.)

Tech Support said a fix has been developed for other models, but not the dv5t.  Changed the sleep setting so the laptop stays on all the time, but if I don't touch the keyboard for a while, it stills goes into this deep sleep which it won't come out of, unless I take the battery out and put it back in.   

This is very frustrating.  A laptop should work longer than 12 months.    Since this is a known problem and a fix has been developed for other models, why not this model?

We had the same issue.  Son's College IT organization some how resolved.  His hard drive just died.  HP has replaced the drive and I have replaced and reloaded.  The Sleep/Hibernate stalemate is know back.  Upon is his return to school and visit back to his IT group I will post their solution they propose.

Thank you, woould love to find out about a fix. I cannot believe HP is not providing a remedy for this. I was so looking forward to this laptop and find myself not using it because of this issue.

I am also having this issue. Can't believe there is no solution - this issue interferes with the productivity of the user, have to restart each time by unplugging and removing battery and now dont trust the pc. I have to be saving every time like we were in the 1990's....

I was wondering when you might be able to post the solution found by the college IT group. I have had success in past with application of BIOS patch (on a 6730b), Unfortunately, this patch wasn not available the last time that I checked. I've also read that disabling sleep mode works, but this is not a viable solution, as I'm sure you agree.

I have the exact problem. Mine is a Pavillion 9000 from 2007. Never did this until I sent it back to HP to replace the mother board. At that time it was still under extended warranty. I just stopped using it, bought a Mac. So the thing just sat, and I was going to give it to someone and restored the original factory settings, then after a couple of hours sitting, it went into that freeze sleep mode. So I remembered to unplug and take out the battery. Time and a restore did not fix it. Were you able to resolve the problem? If so, please let me know. I wouldn't give it to anyone like this. Thanks.
