I just purchased a new HP Envy 17 3270 running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium. BIOS version is F.05. After receiving it, I immediately plugged it into the power adapter and turned it on. The first 3 tries it would power on for a few seconds to where the BIOS displayed "press ESC for the setup menu" in the bottom left, and then immediately shut off. Even when I did press ESC, the menu would display for a second and then it would shut off. Eventually it stayed on and continued through the First Use process. I booted into the O/S and proceded to test out the buttons on the keyboard. If I press down on the Beats Audio "button" (the volume knob), it IMMEDIATELY kills power to the laptop. No power whatsoever...not standby, not hibernate, just dead. When I power it back on (again I have to do this 3-4 times before the power stays on) I receive the unexpected shutdown screen and I'm asked if I want to boot normally. I haven't got to the point of updating the BIOS or checking drivers yet since this a brand new factory install that should at least be stable, but this smells like defective hardware. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Hi,
My personal opinion is the same as yours - the notebook should work without issue 'out of the box'. From your description this almost certainly a Hardware issue so my best advice would be to return the unit to the retailer and get a replacement.
Best regards,
