I'm almost lost my patience with this laptop, it seems I just waste money on this. The first problem I got is the speaker got broke and sent this laptop to service center in Dubai. They fixed it and it's fine now and they add also scratch on the case, so it depreciated 25% now! The second problem I really hate is when I'm playing music, it stops INTERMITTENTLY!!! I tried so many things to fix the problem but no LUCK!!! I did updating the audio driver, change the music player, uninstall the stupid BEATS software and the problem still the same. But in my HP DV6 when I played the same music there is no problem, and the speaker sound is very good than this bull**bleep** BEATS!!!
I hope anyone from HP have a suggestion to fix this problem... because I am affraid to send this back to their service center and got more scratches... I'm suspecting that this is a hardware problem...

CoolBlaze,
I am not about to get into a discussion about Beats. Smiling. The only way Beats is remotely useful is with external speakers or headphones. Period. I do have it, BTW.
If you think the Beats audio is to blame, then
Have you tried turning OFF the Beats in the Beats panel?
Task Bar > Right-Click Beats icon > Open Beats audio panel > listening experience >
UNCHECK "Beats Audio" > Save
I do not know if this will fix anything, but it might reduce the variables in your quest for the root cause.

It is unlikely to be the Beats. It was a long shot.
You did not say how you are playing music - streaming, DVD, ???
The root cause has to be in the way the system is handling the actual way in which the music is being handled. It may or may not be something in the system that is at fault, that is, there may be something going on within the computer at the time the music is playing that is interfering with the music and causing it to hang sometimes.
You can take a look at what your computer is doing while the music is playing and decide whether the computer is behaving as it should. Because you have another computer on which you can play / listen to the same music without the issue, you can make a good comparison on the two systems. If the computer is "doing something else" that is getting in the way of your music and causing it to hang, this test may help you find out what is going on.
Here is the tool. You will have to search for the culprit, if there is one. Understand that using the Resource Monitor USES resource, that is, it uses your CPU and makes your computer work harder. You do not want to leave the Resource Monitor running when you are not using it.
Start > search / type "resou" > Click on "Resource Monitor"
Check the CPU, the DISK, and under Network.
See if you can find anything that looks out of place. Watch the monitor when the music is playing. It may take awhile. There is no guarentee this is the "answer" - it may help you to narrow down what is going on.
Compare what is going on with what happens when you run the same processes on the DV6.

I hope this helps!

I did what you said and I cannot find what is the cause exactly. Now when I'm playing movies it stops also like a pirated movie. The music and movie files I'm playing is in the hard drive. I did hard drive check with the hp tool and WD tool, the hard drive passed the test. It so frustrating!!!

Hey Cool,
Well, I do not think Beats is to blame. Beats is the augmented fancy IDT audio chipset; I doubt it could have this sort of effect unless it failed utterly. It is possible, just unlikely.
Option 1:
The following document may or may not help pinpoint the contributing factors you are facing:
Resolving DVD and Blu-ray Movie Problems (Windows 7)
Here are some of the points from the file:
- Make sure the Disc and the Drive unit are both clean. (You may use filtered water and lint free cloths on discs; wipe from the center outward. NEVER use tap water. You can buy cleaning kits online or in a store to clean the DVD player and/or the discs.)
- Reinstall the Drivers - even under normal use, drivers can become corrupted. If regular methods of reinstallation fail, consider deleting the driver and then reinstalling from the downloaded .exe file from your HP software and drivers website.
- Make sure the BIOS is updated.
- Make sure the system is not otherwise occupied (not busy doing something else) - resources are important and if the system is stressed, it WILL balk at some point.
Option 2:
You might check, update and make sure you Anti-Virus Software is up to date. Then run a deep scan on that system to make sure it is clean.
Option 3:
Make sure that file system is clean. If may just be a mess inside. It happens.
Ignore all the Logging this and do that... Just start the program and let it run. Get involved only if it fails to complete. IF it doesn't find anything, then Great! One more thing NOT to worry about.
sfc-scannow
Scan and repair the system. The sfc /scannow command will do that - it will scan the operating system, looking for corrupted files and inconsistencies; it will replace and repair whatever it can. If it finds corrupted programs or libraries, it will try to fix them.
- Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Right-Click Command Prompt > Select 'Run as Administrator'
- In the Command Prompt Window, type (or copy / paste) sfc /scannow and press Enter.
(Note the space between sfc and the "/".)
The sfc scan will report its findings and you can examine the results:
- Open a Command Prompt (does not have to be as Administrator):
- Use the copy command to create a readable file copy of the output:
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt
If “scannow” does not complete properly, try running:
sfc /verifyonly
Copy the results into a text file, pull the output file into Notepad and look for the errors that the full Scan could not fix.
Help File for the System File Checker Command:
System File Checker tool Windows Vista or on Windows 7
Using System File Checker (SFC) to Restore System Files
==================================================
I hope this helps.

I've been working on an HP G62. Everything works fine except that after playing music for about 20 minutes (no other activity on the computer) it will suddenly play static and then freeze solid. For testing I played a video from Amazon for over an hour with no trouble. Just seemed to be a music thing through iTunes. Of course I reloaded iTunes and tried music straight from a CD to test for corrupted music. Froze after 20 minutes each time. It was after four attempts that I noticed that "Norton is running background tasks" was frozen on the screen each time it froze. I went in and shut down Norton (I thought), and tested again thinking for sure I had it. But again it froze and the "Norton is running background tasks" was frozen there again. I went in and uninstalled Norton to get it out of the way and tested. Finally, success.

ToryLander,
Thanks for positng. It helps to hear what is going on and what works to solve the issue!
Gotta hate Norton. Smiling.
I did tell CoolBlaze about running the Resource Monitor to catch those rogue programs that steal the resources. Never heard back. ?
Be sure you install some decent AntiVirus to replace Norton. Smiling. Here are a couple of options if you are looking around for something:
If you would like other recommendations for Antivirus Software, you can check out Microsoft’s own page on the subject, where you can find links to many companies who provide Windows 7 compatible products.
Windows 7 consumer security software providers
Good Luck!

Hi DragonFur,
Sorry for the late reply, right now I don't have much time using my Envy14. But when I use Resource Monitor the only program that use a lot of resources is the windows media player on the current mp3 file it plays.
My antivirus is microsoft security essential, and it did not take much resources than the windows media player. I don't see any program got froze. So I'm still wondering why I got this problem... I installed new codec the SharkCodec, they said this is better than any other codec but no luck... Do the windows update, sfc scann, re-install the audio driver, the problem still.
Regards,
John
