My <6 month old HP G62 laptop has a startup problem. If it's completely off and I start it, the HP then Windows logo comes up, and then there is a blank screen... indefinitely. If I hold in the power button for several seconds to turn it off, and then push the power button again, it restarts with two options. One is to go into system recovery mode, and the other is to start Windows normally.
The recovery mode will complete if I select it, but the problem with startup still happens every time. Without fail, if I choose to start windows normally, it starts and everything is fine.
I tried clearing the hard drive completely and reinstalling Windows, but the problem persists. Any ideas? It's frustrating to have to start my computer twice each time I want to use it.

I have had the same problem with my touchSmart tm2 since the first time I used it. But I have a twist to it. I will be working away and suddenly the cursor will freeze for several seconds then the computer will reboot taking me to the HP logo screen, then the windows restart options, where I choose to restart normally.
Windows restarts to the point of password entry, I enter my password and am greeted with a blank screen. I waited and waited a few times, I have tried pushing every key on the keyboard, sliding the power button briefly as though waking the machine from hibernation, clicking the mouse. NO RESPONSE. Hard Reboot by sliding and holding the power button is my only recourse and it takes me back to hp logo to start completely over. Strangely enough it never takes more than that second pass to keep the display up and allow me to use it normally. I have no idea why the second time works and the first doesn't; I don't do anything differently,
So frustrating, and so far no fix to be had. I have searched for patches that would address this issue but have found none so far. I can't offer any help, just empathy. If you find a solution, please share. Thanks. Jerilyn

I am having the same issue. I purchased the computer on December 11, 2010 from Best Buy and the Geek Squad are not helping with the issue. They told me that it was the bloatware, then they told me that nothing is wrong, then they told me it was Norton. Its frustrating because they are not able to duplicate the problem. The pc is still under warranty so I'll be sure that a resolution is reached prior to my warranty expiring.
