My G62 laptop stopped working al of a sudden. now when i turn it on the screen is blank and the caps key is continuously blinking. I read up online and found out the problem might be the power cord so i bought a new one and am still having this problem. also i noticed that the light beside the power plug sometimes turns orange for a bit when i first plug it in. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ) and see if the notebook will start.

Hi,
If you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following - if you only have 1 module, try it in the other available slot.
With reference to the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot. If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot. If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start.
The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 55 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Regards,
DP-K

i had my laptop for over 1 year now, no complains untill couple days ago i tunred off, went be bed, the following morning my laptop shows no signs of hope!
black screen
the fan will go on
the capslock key keeps blinking
the wifi light is orange (i guess it means that the wifi is off)
no beeps or any sort of sounds
tried swapping the rams, i even bought a new one assuming that both of my rams were fried but that didn't work either
can't even to get to the bios i tried holding the "window key + B" and turn it on, in which u r suppose to get to the bios restore screen after 40 secs but that wasnt succesfull either
out of the blue , it worked just this one time yesterday, but that was it, after i turned off and on again it went back to the same problem
that's really frustrating since my laptop is out of warranty now and no one had advised me to get the extended warranty
i don't know if there's any recalls on these models since its just weird that a laptop would die like that

@Nhd: Is your laptop fixed now or seated somewhere collecting dust?
I have exact the same problem. It is dead for a few weeks. Then yesterday, it suddenly come back to life when I tried to connect to the external screen hdmi. But that is it. Just for that one time. After the power off, it is dead again.
I search the internet and knew quite a few people have the same problem with this model. So far, I did not find any solution.
This is th HP forum, I wonder why we don't get feed back from HP about this issue.

Hi,
I would like to thank you for being a valued HP Customer. I do apologize for the inconvenience. A blank screen with the caps lock blinking could mean several things depending on how many times the blinks occur within a sec. I have a document regarding Blink Codes that can provide a better understanding and has the best way to resolve the issue.
If more assistance is needed please respond
Thanks for choosing HP

Hi miajo_HP,
Thank you for replying.
I already knew the blink codes. I have one blink and it means the processor is at fault ( failed the test).
While searching for the solution, I know this is a common problem of this model, usually after 1+ year of service.
What bugs me are:
- the product's life is too short.
- replacing the processor is not pratical, considering the price tag of $202+ just for the part,
and no warranty that, after the processor, when the next component(s) will fail.
- the laptop sometimes comes back to life and then dead again, suggesting something else is happening.
- lack of clear ans honest support of from HP.
All in all, I have no trust on this HP laptop. And I don't plan to buy any HP's product in the future.
This is a shame. I thought HP was a very good brand-name and it could do better.
Regards
