Re: HP G72 101SA notebook freezes randomly while using Web Cam or Watch video. Please Help!!!

Hi, I have EXACTLY THE SAME VIDEO PROBLEM with my HP G72 Intel on board video chip.

I went back to the shop. Updated all relevant drivers. Added additional RAM, but nothing seems to work.

Video playback, Youtube, Skype, using firefox, but also other browsers... CPU just clogs up to 100% and computer hangs.

It is frustrating, as no one seems to have any answers.

Anyone can help???

Thanks in advance!

Maarten

Re: HP G72 101SA notebook freezes randomly while using Web Cam or Watch video. Please Help!!!

The latest version of the Intel HD graphics driver is from 2010-04-23 , Version:8.15.10.2086 A.

Which version is installed in your notebook? You can check that with GPU-z or in the Device Manager.

The latest BIOS update is 2011-05-03 , Version:F.37.

You can check both of these by running the HP Support Assistant and selecting the Maintain section and then running a Tuneup. Any updates that are available will be shown. Updating via the Tuneup application is a safe method to use.

Re: HP G72 101SA notebook freezes randomly while using Web Cam or Watch video. Please Help!!!

Thanks for your prompt reaction. I checked my HD graphics driver, and its even way newer than the one you mentioned (I have 8.15.10.2361, April 10, 2011), so that should be okay. However my BIOS version is F.07 (Feb 10, 2010). How can I update my BIOS, and should that provide solution?

thanks and regards

With as many (7) updates that have been done for this BIOS I would update it.

Update the BIOS via the HP Support Assistant or the UEFI environment.

The nice thing is that your notebook has UEFI, so if there is an issue with the update you can use UEFI to rollback the BIOS to a previously installed version. It is a notebook saver!

Re: HP G72 101SA notebook freezes randomly while using Web Cam or Watch video. Please Help!!!

I tried to update my BIOS following the EUFI advice in several ways. I updated the HP diagnostics tool on my Windows 7 64 bit system after which I downloaded the sp52407.exe. I installed this on my C drive and selected the virtual HP_TOOLS drive on my notebook.

It did not ask me to reboot (option 4 below nevert popped up), so I did manually. According to the online instructions I found on the HP site (see below), I should be okay by now, but when I check "system information", my BIOS version still read F.07...

I tried to update BIOS by going through the motion myself, however did not succeed; please advise how to update using the EUFI (which only gives me DOS-like diagnostics options)....

Once you have downloaded and saved the latest version of the BIOS to your computer, you will need to manually install it. It will take a few minutes to install the latest version of the BIOS. It is important to remain patient, do not interrupt the process, allow the updates to install properly. Installing a BIOS may also be called 'Flashing the BIOS'.
To install the latest version of the BIOS for the computer manually, be sure that you are running on AC, not battery, power, and follow the steps below.
  1. Connect the AC power supply to the computer.
  2. Locate the BIOS file (sample name: SP12345.exe) that you downloaded to a convenient location on your computer.
  3. Double-click the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Allow the installation to complete all its actions and automatically restart. If prompted, press the power button to restart the computer.
The latest version of the BIOS is now installed on the computer.

Re: HP G72 101SA notebook freezes randomly while using Web Cam or Watch video. Please Help!!!

Thanks for your input Erico, I managed to update my BIOS using a different and later version. So I am running on F.37.

However, the video (and CPU clog up) is still not resolved. HELP

So I have i3 processor. 6GB internal memory, latest BIOS and video drivers and still with Skype video or youtube or using web browsers the systems clogs up until it hangs. I ran out of options. What else to do??

Thanks, Maarten
