HP Mini 311 Hangs Playing Video Over Network

I have an HP Mini 311 1000-NR netbook running Windows 7 and it hangs while playing video over the network. It last just a couple seconds, video locks, sound gets stuck, then it comes back and plays fine for a while. I should also note that when this happens the HDD led goes solid, and the computer is completely unresponsive.

This happens while playing Standard and HD video of all formats, avi, mkv, etc...

This happens over wireless and wired ethernet. Ethernet is run through a switch and bypasses the router.

The same videos work fine when played from the local hard drive.

Having the power cord plugged in makes no difference.

Setting the power plan to high performance makes no difference.

I've tried playing video files from multiple network shares on different PC's with no change, so it can't be a problem with the host machine.

All drivers and software are of course up to date.

I've run out of ideas.

Re: HP Mini 311 Hangs Playing Video Over Network

the experience in playing online games depends on the speed of the internet that your ISP have given to you....how many mbps is your internet connection???? for online games you should have at least 2mbps for better online gaming experience....the hd led goes solid because your hardrive is very busy....

Ummm, I didn't say anything about online games. Did you even read my posting?

Anyway, I resolved the issue. It turns out that the Nvidia SATA controller driver was the issue. Manually installing the microsoft driver that some with Windows fixed my problem.

Re: HP Mini 311 Hangs Playing Video Over Network

Dont need to download anything, it is already included in Windows.

In device manager, choose the Nvidia SATA controller and update it.

Update driver >> Browse my computer for driver software >> Pick from a list of devices.

The one you want should be the only option other than the Nvidia driver.

Re: HP Mini 311 Hangs Playing Video Over Network

I see something very close -- two second delay, hard drive light goes on -- except I am playing audio, and it can be local, or streamed over the Internet.  Have seen this using IE, Chrome, and playing both local and streamed music through iTunes.  I applied the fix as described here, which I've also seen listed to solve "audio" stutter problems.  It made things much better, but about 6 hours of playing audio, I still had another occurrence of this problem.

HP wants me to return the unit, 2 week turnaround and pay for shipping back. If I have to do that, I may just ask for a refund ... Verizon card isn't working either ...
