Hello ForrestR,
I don't understand it. I thougt the additional driver is the AMD driver. After the installation of ubuntu the open source driver is active. And if you activate additional drivers you get the proprietary amd driver installed.
You wrote: "Use the Open source drivers [Aditional drivers] and go into Catalyst Control Center then to PowerPlay". But if you use the open source driver (as you suggested) i thougt there is no Catalyst Control Center (because this is the Config-Tool for the AMD driver).
Can you please clarify this?

PS: My DM1 works (nearly) perfect under Ubuntu 12.04. The only problem is the battery drain. Under WIN7 7 h, under Ubuntu 2-3 hours less.

What I have found is that the best way to make the keyboard freeze is to connect an external usb harddrive. It happens every time and I have to work really fast if I want to cp/mv something before the keyboard freezes.
I can't see any difference in the changes to grub/blacklist here at least. I haven't tested if there is a difference with the power connected or not though.
