HP Pavilion dm4-1060us Lockups

Hi, I have recently purchased this computer for college and am already having problems with it.

It has locked up three times in the span of a week already.  I have never had a problem with a computer before where it becomes completely unresponsive and nothing can be done except shutting it off.

Can anything be done except sending it to HP?  I extremely disappointed.  Random lockups are simply unacceptable and could mean the loss of work during my time at college.

The issue could be due to many reasons. Make sure that the laptop is free from virus.

Re: HP Pavilion dm4-1060us Lockups

unfortunately I cannot accomplish any of the suggestions because my computer keeps locking up.  It won't even perform a simple task, downloading something from the Microsoft website.

Have you tried a "hard reset". Check out this document!

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not HP.

Make it easier for other people to find solutions,by marking my answer 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem.

Re: HP Pavilion dm4-1060us Lockups

Bought a Pavilion dv7 4065dx 13 months ago. From day one there were problems with it overheating. Even if there was plenty of room left for air movement below the computer, it would still overheat and shut down after and hour or so. We found ourselves stragically setting it up on something and running a fan of our own to flow air under it to keep it from shutting down.

Should have contacted hp sooner but, the sale rep metioned this was a problem with a computer of this size so we excepted it. Now after 13 months the computer runs but all we get is a white screen and occassionally it will start up normally then go to a white screen. Took it to a local computer tech said he thinks the mother board is out. Called hp they what 350 dollars to repair - I'm one month over on the warranty.  Have come to find out that the cooling system in these computers was improper and that is probably why it has problems how?? Would like some answers - don't feel like i should have to pay for repairs on a product that was improperly produced. Have never had so many computor problems - My daughter has had a Mac for 5 years with no issues - runs like new. Lynn
