HP Pavilion dm4t notebook does not resume from standby.

Hi,

My new HP Pavilion dm4t notebook does not resume from standby when on battery power. It goes to standby normally, but after an attempt to resume working, the notebook blinks the power button and wifi lights, then slightly clicks, and then repeats this procedure indefinitely every 5 (or so) seconds. The only way to bring the system back up is to remove the battery (and power cord, if it was connected). Then it powers up normally.

The problem does not seem to occur while on AC power. It is repeatable while running of the battery, however, it does not occur always. Sometimes it resumes ok. Reducing the screen brightness before going to standby seems to increase the chances that the laptop resumes into operation normally.

Also, I am using an expanded battery.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

P.S. Notebookforums.com seems to have the same problem reported. No solution though.

Re: HP Pavilion dm4t notebook does not resume from standby.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear, but it has been a problem to quite a number of dm4 users (including me). Appearently, HP knows about the issue, but did not release any information on possible solution. I sent my unit in for repair after just 4 months of usage, and they got it back to me with the problem still exists and a few scratchs on the lid. Anyway, hopefully someone will kind enough just to tell us what is going on!?

Re: HP Pavilion dm4t notebook does not resume from standby.

Thank you! I new I am not alone :smileyhappy:

Just wanted to report it to HP, but do not want to go through the tech support - it is a waste of time with a problem like this. I wonder if the problem is related to the "black screen" after the standby...

Re: HP Pavilion dm4t notebook does not resume from standby.

I was experience issue where I would get the black screen at shutdown, and sometimes coming back from standby.

I diagnosed by running msconfig.exe from the start menu search field.

I went to startup tab and chose "disable all"

The pc started, shut down and suspended and resumed ok after that.

I then played process of elimination by reactivating until I got the effect again.

Turns out, it was the free HP Cloud Drive/Zumo drive client that loads at startup. I unchecked it in msconfig startup.

Problem has never occurred again.

Side note: I also find that Hibernate works better if I unplug any usb based interface device right before I use hibernate (for example, hibernate works best if I press the power off button on my Logitech VX Nano. If it dont, it starts to hibernate and immediate resumes. :smileyhappy:

Re: HP Pavilion dm4t notebook does not resume from standby.

I have exactly same problem when resuming from standby. There is also another long thread where user splerman described this problem:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/dm4-1063cl-Won-t-Resume-from-Sleep/td-p/...

" [...] After pressing the power button, the blue LED on the power button and the red Wireless LED blink.  The only way to get the system to start back up is to remove both the power cord and the battery.  After performing the hard reset, the system boots normally [...]"

This happpens randomly but very often and is REALLY annoying. Disabling standby is not a solution - its a vital function that should work without problems (like hibernate or poweron!). The live chat support option included in the HP software doesnt work and I dont want to go to the phone support and spend half life time with this very well known problem (just try googling "dm4 standby resume" and see the results...)

I have already tried with msconfig disabling all (including fingerprint service) but system services and also disabling all startup programs and the problem persists. It is also not an ATI GPU problem, since my laptop only has Intel graphics. I also have tried enabling/disabling the hybrid sleep and other power options and nothing changed.

There is not a single response to the thread of 5 pages I mentioned nor this thread from HP support. Do they even monitor their forums? - Please HP, give an update.
