Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1260us black screen

Hi,

It's always worth trying a Hard Reset as follows.

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.

Regards,

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1260us black screen

Hi,

Can you match the sequence of led 'blinks' to those shown in the table below?

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1260us black screen

Hi,

Although the 'blink' code would indicate a cpu problem, this is pretty rare - however it may well be a problem with the Motherboard.

Try the following.

Shut down the notebook.  Follow the procedure starting on Page 63 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the RTC battery.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds and then leave the notebook for 20 minutes.

Reinsert the RTC battery, replace covers etc, plug-in the AC Adapter ( leave the main battery out for the moment ) and see if the notebook will start or if not, whether there is any change in the 'blink' code.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1260us black screen

Hi,

You're welcome :smileyhappy:

If you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following - ( If you only have 1 module, try it in the other available slot ).

With reference to the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot.  If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start.

The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 67 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1260us black screen

Hi,

I'm afraid that my best suggestion now would be to take the notebook to a local computer repair shop to get a diagnosis of the problem and an estimate for the cost of repairing it.  It may indeed be that the processor has failed as indicated by the 'blink' code, but as I mentioned previously, processor failure is comparatively rare - I have seen this error code from a failed GPU even though the table would indicate this would generate 4 'blinks'.

Best regards,
