HP Pavilion dv7-3180us starts to power up, but immediately shuts down

At first my HP Pavilion dv7-3180us was working except for the HP Assistant which started with and error message and did nothing else.  It would not let me uninstall to allow a reinstall.  Other than that it was working with heating issues, but otherwise just fine.  I shut it down properly.  Now I try to boot up, it lights up, I can hear the fan and hard drive start, it shuts down immediately.  I have tried doing a hard boot & tried f10 to no avail.   I really need my laptop and can not afford a costly fix.  I am capable, with instruction, of doing what ever is needed.  I am just stumped on this one and desperately need help.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
