While typing my hand is either hitting the ctrl or fn key (I'm assuming) and then I am unable to continue typing. It then opens a new page, history dialog box, jumps all over the page, etc... The only way to correct is to restart. Can someone please help!!!???? I have to stop in the middle of work and restart.

I also have this problem with HP ProBook 4530s purchased last week - it´s happened every day since I got the machine and I can´t figure out how to prevent it, or quickly remedy it. As mentioned in the first post, the only way I have found to proceed is to restart the machine each time, which is not ideal especially when it happens several times in a day.
Looking forward to hearing from someone who can shed some light on this!

Check if you are affected by this HP software issue (caused by HP Power Assistant v184.108.40.206) which also creates problems with audio/video playback.
But if you already use the latest v220.127.116.11 of HP Power Assistant the problem lies elsewhere.
If you have access to a linux live-USB stick try boot from that and if the problem persists it is most likely a hardware (or BIOS) issue.

Forgot one more thing to check..
It might be the Synaptics Touchpad driver which causes the keyboard issue. In the two latest releases there has apparently been "fixes" related to the CTRL-key.
Try to download and install the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver Version: 16.0.3 (16 Apr 2012) sp56811.exe (78 MB)

Thanks for the advice, I have tried all of the suggestions you made but unfortunately the same situation has ocurred twice already today.
If you have any other thoughts that would be great as it is extremely frustrating and time consuming to be constantly restarting my machine.

OK, so just to update my last comment, it's 3.23pm in Spain now and since 9am I have had to restart my computer FIVE TIMES due to this problem. Needless to say that I am now looking into returning this machine and getting a refund, but in the event of that not being possible I'd like to know what possible solutions there are
