HP laptops bluescreening and freezing after receiving april windows updates

We had some windows updates come down on April 10th.

These have caused general bluescreening and laptop freezing when using wireless.

We are running XP on 2510p, 8460p, 8440p, 6910p laptops and are all expereincing the same fault.

Around 60 odd laptops have so far reported the fault but our whole estate is around 600 hp laptops.

It is possible that all are affected.

Manual removing of the updates that can be removed does not resolve the issue.

System restore only seems to resolve the issue in some cases and not others.

The remaining laptops we are having to rebuild.

Please tell me that someone has found a proper solution to this issue.

Hi,
Check the link below:
Blue Screen (BSOD) showed up? Check this topic.

Note:

Please do stick to the following rules:

  • Choose one 2510p, one 8460p, one  8440p and one 6910p notebook.
  • In next reply post links to packed files with minidumps.
  • In every compressed file should be collection of minidumps only from one specific model.
  • Add comment which minidump is from which model

I will try to find out what is causing this problem, but I can't promise that this will end with success.

Re: HP laptops bluescreening and freezing after receiving april windows updates

Things are starting to become clearer...The majority of the laptops that have a problem are not bluescreening and therefore not creating memory dumps....There are only a few that have actually bluescreened and those we have rebuilt already....however as soon as I can get hold of one of these dumps I will upload......A system restore seems to resolve the bluescreening issues but does not always resolve the freezing problem.

In the meantime however....all of the affected laptops are experiencing freezing when connecting to WLAN or WWAN.  After connecting to wireless the laptop freezes after about 30secs for about 1 min before then recovering...all IO freezes completely....the laptop will then work for another period of time before again freezing....and so on....there are no error messages...nothing in event viewer...nothing to state that the freezing ever occured at all.....for some people it will freeze a couple of times a day... for others every 30 mins....

Re: HP laptops bluescreening and freezing after receiving april windows updates

This can now be closed.  The blue-screening was resolved by a system restore where possible and via laptop rebuild where not. We believe that the freezing error was caused by windows updates interfering with Symantec Endpoint 11.x  As soon as we upgraded SEP to 12.x the freezing problem when connected via wireless stopped.
