HP pavilion dm1 Notebook PC won't shut down

Hi,

I have a dm1 Notebook and it won't shut down, restart, or hibernate. It will sleep, but won't do any of the others. The system BIOS is F.02 and it runs on Windows 7. Can anyone help??

Thanks!

Re: HP pavilion dm1 Notebook PC won't shut down

Hello,

You should run a disk scan to check your OS stability, so please goto the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt, type the following command and hit enter:

sfc /scannow ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter. If the laptop does not pass this scan let me know and do not do this next scan. Click the Start Menu again, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties, click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are checked and then click Start.  The computer will ask to schedule the check at the next system restart?  Click 'Yes." and then restart the laptop.

This process can take several hours to complete and cannot be interfered with whatsoever, okay? Once completed the laptop will restart itself. This is the only way to fix its problems. Let the laptop fix itself, okay?

Re: HP pavilion dm1 Notebook PC won't shut down

Hi again :smileyhappy:

So I went into the Start Menu, opened All Programs, opened Accessories, right clicked on the Command Prompt and selected 'Run as Administrator' and nothing happened. And now I can open the Start Menu, but I can't click anything it. I can't even type in the search bar at the bottom. Hmmmm...

Re: HP pavilion dm1 Notebook PC won't shut down

Hi

It's fixed!! I ran the AVG 2012 PC Analyzer and it found a few problems so I downloaded the AVG PC Tune Up, but it wouldn't run. I still couldn't click anything in the start menu and so I got annoyed and held the power button in and surprise surprise the laptop turned off immediately. Just completely shutdown in like a second. I restarted it and a screen came up with options on how I wanted to restart the laptop and I chose "restart windows normally" (or something of the sort). It restarted and applied all the updates (all 20 000 of them), and I was able to access everything in the start menu.

I then ran the AVG PC Tune Up and it found and fixed all problems. My laptop's back to normal now.

Thanks for helping!! :smileyvery-happy:
