I just purchased a HP Pavilion g6-1d60us Notebook running Windows 7 in April, and I'm living abroad in China so fixing anything is a bit tricky. I was looking at pictures in Windows Picture Viewer, and my computer slowed down, and then would not respond to anything, Even ctrl-alt-del. Windows taskbar disappeared. I hard shut it down, and then restarted, worked fine for a couple of hours. I updated at that time. Later when I was looking at pictures in Windows Explorer, the same thing happened. Then I ran startup diagnostic and got the error code 908H5V-63264F-MFGK0J-60SG03. Hard Disk 1 failed. A6Z59UA#ABA is the product code. I was wondering if there is any sort of repair I could run in China, or if I will need to wait until I'm state-side to get this looked at under warranty.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi,
It does look like you really need to have the HDD replaced, however, try the following to see if it will help the issue in the meantime - if you have files on the notebook that you need to keep, back them up first.
Click the Start Menu, open Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties. Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'. In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start. Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook - this process can take several hours to complete before loading back into Windows.

Hi,
You're welcome ![]()
I would suggest keeping a regular back-up of your personal files to be on the safe side.
I would still recommend getting the HDD replaced under warranty when it is convenient - if the drive is failing and more bad sectors start appearing, running Chkdsk will mark these as not to be used, but it is in a sense just hiding the problem, not curing it.
Best regards,
