Having frequent startup problems and system freezes

Laptop: HP Envy 15 (15-1104TX)

I bought the laptop with the modifications below (aside from the hardware additions/replacements it was brand new)

Solid state disk - Corsair CMFSSD-256D1 (the only hard disk)

RAM - 16GB

The problem is this:

Sometimes I cannot boot the computer ( I get the first screen with HP logo, then a couple of minutes later black screen with white/blue text).

The problem is random/intermittent.

Currently I keep switching it ON/OFF till windows restarts.

I have tried shaking the computer (lightly), with and without power supplied, opening/closing the lid but have not really found any consistent pattern.

I also get the computer freezing on me when I leave it for an extended period of time.

In this case, the screen comes back on with the (windows) login screen but I cannot get past this (mouse still works).

I manually restart (as above) and system may boot first time if Im lucky.

I'm not sure whether it is a hardware or software issue... but this is really annoying and I have backed up all my files in case one day it never re-starts!

This sounds like a definite hardware issue. If the unit is still under warranty, contact Hp.

Will the warranty be vaild if the HDD has been switched for SSD and RAM upgraded??

Who did the upgrade? Don't you have the originals?

   ED: This sounds like a motherboard issue.
