Hp DV7 won't sleep, hibernate or shut down. The display turns off but the laptop remains running. I think that the sound button also turns orange. It's a DV7-1261WM running Windows 7 Pro Sp1

The only way to turn it off is to press and hold the power button.

Please help!

Didn't find anything in that article that resembles my problem.

I've researched this problem to some degree and found some information that pertained specifically to my problem, but have not found the silver bullet.

My laptop has has a completely depleted battery for a while now, but now has a new one. Don't know if it could be related but thought it could be worthy of mention.

I ran the sfc /scannow command four or five times with not noticeable effect. I also restored to a previous date without success.

Also notice that the computer hags if I try to do a restart or shutdown command.
