Hp Dv5-1008ca keeps shutting down

Okay, I have had this problem for about a year now, my laptop keeps randomly, going into a sleep or hibernate mode (not sure what the difference is) Anyway, randomly my screen will go black, the blue wireless light above mt keyboard goes orange, and after about 30 seconds the laptop shuts off, I give it a few seconds and when I start it back up, I have to do a system resume to get it working again. It happens way too much now to the point where I cant even use my computer for more than an hour. here's a few things I did to fix the problem witch abviously didn't work.

I updated the BIOS (according to HP support that would fix it).

I dissasembled the entire laptop and cleaned it out. (Don't worry my warranty is up anyway)

Re-installed Windows Vista 32 with service pack 2.

I have also been through 2 of these after market Undercoolers.

None of witch are making things better. I am virus free, just did a scan with Windows live on care before this post, I will guess now that it is a hardware problem, but HP estimated $400 for a repair, which after paying $800 for this I simply do not have. If anybody has an answer please help, much appreciated.

P.S. The random shutdown mostly happens when I'm updating windows, or playing a game.

Re: Hp Dv5-1008ca keeps shutting down

Hi sorvis, have you looked closely at your power settings for hibernate/sleep?

Try turning off hibernate on your PC, and disabling the sleep button (Fn-F5 on my laptop).

Your settings could be wrong, or you could accidentally be putting it to sleep.

Please let us know of your progress.

Good Luck!

Re: Hp Dv5-1008ca keeps shutting down

Hello I'm back, it's happenening again. To add to the problems when I have my "Ultra Speed" 1TB External HD attached I get the blue screen of death after starting the computer back up. It "crash dumps" about 7000 times before I go insane. After a while it works again but only for a bit. I stopped using the intercooler external fan, All I feel it's doing is blowing dust & hair in to the vents under my computer. I dunno what to do anymore HP still wants me to pay an estimated $500 to fix it. Thats not going to happen though.

Re: Hp Dv5-1008ca keeps shutting down

Face the fact HP put out a piece of **bleep** labtop that they should have recalled to keep the consumer happy but they didn't they were greedy and now I will never buy another piece of their **bleep**, I am going to apple! May cost more but their support is superior and they don't put out such CRAP!!!!!

Re: Hp Dv5-1008ca keeps shutting down

After being sure the processor fan  has been disassembled and cleaned thoroughly , it would be a good idea to reinstall and update.
