Maybe I didn't see this before. I ran the "Start-Up Test" again. Memory passed, smart check passed, short DST passed, Optimized DST passed
Then I got a failure

Bingo! thanks for the quick test & reply, time to call support so they can help you out, and you already have the information to give them, error code from F2 Diags.

Boot from a Windows Repair Disk and run Startup Repair. You probably will have to boot and run it 2-3 times to fix the error.
Windows 7 64bit Use something like ImgBurn to burn the image to cd.
You can also choose Command promt option and type bootrec /fixboot .Hit Enter key after typing it.Note the space after bootrec.

I can't access the cd drive; I can't get into safe mode; I can't boot up windows to type anything. All I get is a black screen and a blinking cursor. This computer is only a year old.

Hi gdk, have you tried the Hard-Reset steps from earlier in the thread?
Where you remove the battery & AC power and hold down the power button for 30 seconds?
If you do this then plug the AC power back in and tap the "f2" key after you press the power button, what do you see?
It would be helpful to know what is on the screen, also which LED's are on?
Have you contacted support, either phone, Chat or email?
If so what have they recommended.
Thank you.

Download the ISO below to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD on another machine:
Use ImgBurn to burn the ISO image to a CD. Guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here

I did try taking the battery out and unplugging the computer. This didn't work.
I can burn the recovery CD but I can't boot to the CD drive. I've tried this just with a regular CD.
It seems to me that the only way that this computer will be fixed is to send it back to you. You would have to correct the problem by looking at the computer internally. It's no longer under warranty but this should not have happened. I think HP should fix it.
