Laptop Hard Drive Short DST Failed - How to Reinstall Windows on New Hard Drive?

I have a G62-144DX laptop that is two years old (read: out of warranty), and the hard drive is shot. I ran the diagnostic tests and found that it failed the Short DST test. I tried to use the recovery partition, but it wouldn't run. I booted from an Ubuntu Live CD, but I couldn't mount the hard drive. I also created a Windows recovery CD using another laptop running the same operatin system (Windows 7 64-bit), but I could not successfully boot from the CD. A blue Windows-themed screen would appear but would not progress from that point.

So, I basically need to replace my hard drive. However, my computer did not come with a Windows recovery CD. I only have the recovery partition. Additionally, I can no longer read the Windows serial number on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop. Given all this, how can I reinstall Windows after I buy a new hard drive?

Thank you.

Re: Laptop Hard Drive Short DST Failed - How to Reinstall Windows on New Hard Drive?

Hi, you would have an option to order the Recovery Discs set from HP to install the operating system on the new Hard Drive. It would cost you approximately $ 15–25. Windows activation does not require while performing installation through Recovery Discs.
