I have a relatively new ProBook 4430s running Windows 7 and recently my computer has been shutting down with the slightest static charge when I touch the case or the touch pad (I try to make sure that I discharge any static electricity before returning to work). The problem only occurs when the computer is on AC power. I live in a relatively dry climate, Lubbock, TX, but I have never experienced a similar problem with a previous HP laptop. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or has any suggestions on what might be causing the problem?

I have exactly the same problem with my Probook 4430s. Additionally, if I am holding on to the laptop and move my rolling chair the least little bit, it will shut down the laptop.
Does anyone at HP have a solution for this issue?

I'm having the same problem. I would like to know if there is some recall for this model.

Yes, I am having the exact same problem. I work with others that currently use the same laptop model and are experiencing the same issue.
If there is HP engineer out there and knows how to hook up the laptop keyboard to the PS supply ground, please contact us on this link and lets get this fixed. I am about to make a decision on whether to buy a boat load of HP laptops, and this issue is influencing my decision toward another brand.

I have the same problem. When you try and contact HP, they give you the run around. Oh, you bought a "professional book" (Main message, don't buy high quality from HP because we will throw you into another category where you can't get help)
Then, finally, you get what you think is help, when you find the LINK on the HP site for support. Next thing you know, you're in India, where they try and sell you 3 year tech support.
HP does not want to fix this issue.
I hoped this patch helped, I did follow - which helped with the caps "locking up" but not the unexpected shut downs.

I have the same problem with the HP Probook 4430S Laptop I bought my wife. The PC shuts down all the time and I do beleive that static electricity causes this shutdown. I even tried a different OS to see if that made any difference, and it did not. I don't know where to go except HP.

Okay, since HP is OBVIOUSLY not going to assist anyone here, I will tell you what worked for me.
After repeated attempts to get this laptop working, I ended up backing up the entire laptop and then performing a complete restoration. I reloaded the operating system and installed all of the original programs and my addtional information. I then downloaded and installed all pertinent updates.
Since then (about 18 months ago) I have had no issues whatsoever. I know this is late info, but I hope it helps someone.
