Hey,
My Pavilion dv4 won't boot anymore. I get the classic black screen and blinking caps/scroll lock. I have seen the tables for counting the number of blinks, however my keys do not even stop blinking. I counted to thirty then stopped and it is still blinking now ten minutes later. The frequency is about 1 blink every 3 seconds.
I have hooked up an external monitor: nothing.
I have reseated the memory modules: nothing.
I have had geek squad and a computer science graduate look at it, they both speculate motherboard failure.
I have not tried individually testing each memory module, but am fixing to do so.
Input?

I just tried removing the top most memory module then rebooting and my laptop came back to life! I switched the modules out to determine if I had a bad module or a bad slot and it worked again. I then tried the top slot alone and it worked fine. Perplexed, I tried the remaining module in the top slot. The laptop then reverted to the old error and now no combination of module/slot is bringing it back to life. Frustrating.
